Explanation for High Tithing
Statistics in the
View from the Pew
Constituency Survey of 1000+ Christian Households
Barna Research reported in
2008 that only 5% of Americans tithe (donated 10% or more of
their income) and that 24% of evangelicals tithe. In the View
from the Pew survey, 78% of survey participants reported that
they donated 10% or more in the past year. The View from the
Pew research is a constituency survey which reflects the
practices of those participating in the survey as opposed to a
random sampling survey which represents the general public in
America. The constituencies of MAXIMUM Generosity and
Christianity Today represent a high number of Christians that
actively serve in their local church (98% regularly donate to
their local church).
One third of participants were church
pastors/staff and two thirds were active lay leaders/members.
This dedicated group of Christians appropriately reflect a much
high priority to faithful and generous giving than the general
public. |
